Showing how Android is surging ahead is meant to show which OS is winning, but often (as is the case with this report, I believe) they are only looking at phone sales. Because iOS runs on iPads and iPods, Apple's share is higher. I wish we could get more concrete evidence on this.

    P-Worm

Your OS isn't "winning" when it's being likened to Windows. It's no compliment. Licensed to anyone who can slam together a box with User Experience as varied as the handset models that run it doesn't make Android a winner.

    It just makes it generic.

Aus : 97 for no loss. Mebbe finally time for the openers to hit a century each? (in this series)

Hmm... How's it happening? My radio is off again. Are we as toothless as the score suggests?

Good point about the 21.5" teardown, but in fact I would say that I anticipate the 27" teardown photos.

Good point? I would say it was more like a fundamental point. Anything said before actually seeing the insides of a 27" model is pointless speculation, including me speculating there are 2 controllers/new controller design.

This is a surprise? Just look at the titles. Who the hell reads these rags anyway?

I am a subscriber to GQ, Details, and Wired...I have never even looked at the iPad app bc I wont pay twice...they should push to offer it with print subscription, and if an upgrade give a reason why I should pay extra...right now I can get a print edition for $1 per issue

Well, heck -- looks like my MWSF is going to be very brief this year, as I have to go down to LA Wednesday the 10th through Friday the 12th. I'm going to have to cram everything in on Tuesday the 9th. So much for a leisurely stroll through the halls -- it's going to be a real hit-and-run affair this time.

You keep your widgets and "free" Google maps on Android. I'll take a robust catalog of quality apps on iOS.

At least I can buy a good nav app for iOS. You can't buy (at any price) a vast number of the highly-polished and functional applications and games I can get on my iOS devices.

    Enjoy the compromise.

Cant buy it on android because there is really NO NEED. The free maps app is GREAT. You would know this had you used it

Navigon, Tom Tom and the bunch on iOS are needed because there is NO OTHER solution. Thats when apps are good, when they fill a specific need.;)

I don't understand how he can say "the facts are different."

The only fact that I personally care about is the fact that IF I touch my hand to the bottom antenna - my signal drops DRAMATICALLY. That is not something I am imagining -- it is FACT.

I realize not everyone suffers from this problem. But the FACT IS -- I DO.

So what? They do it so we should do it?

    That's 5 year old logic.

Could someone Please point out where in any of my posts I said we should do the same thing? I was simply pointing out that another poster who seemed to think that this kind of behavior didn't exsist in other countries wAs wrong.

Every other teacher in the school is fine with it, it's just that one guy. By taking it off me, I couldn't get my coursework finished. Pretty annoying. I see everyones point that it's his network, but it's a pretty big assumption to assume that a student is 'hacking the network' because he's on a laptop.

Ever been to any of the Ivy leagues - they offer network (encrypted) so people can do exactly that: work. And a open guest network outside off the firewall... Maybe they need to update their approach

Once upon a time iLife came out every year and had incremental updates to each of the programs, sometimes adding a new program by surprise. We all knew to expect the iLife update each year and I purchased every update without hesitation.

Fast forward to the disruptive time in iLife's history, the killing of iMovie HD.
That marked the end of iLife as we knew it. No longer would we see nice improvements of our favorite iLife apps each year. No, now we are on this kill iLife crusade. Next up, kill iDVD just when it was really getting good.

I miss the old days of knowing that each year brought a new iLife. It was fun and exciting. Now I can't even get the RAW photos off my MC-LX5 camera because iPhoto can't read them.

Ok Apple, I played ball, I just bought a new 2.8 Mac Pro Tower of Power.
But, just like iLife 11, I am still waiting on it to ship.

One of the guys mentioned they'd already got the date for when Intel Mac Mini's with Leopard will be in store. Wait for it... April 2007:( . It seems unlikely that Leopard will pounce onto our screens in January.

Well, one, they really don't know the date. Nobody does yet, probably not even Apple down to the actual day. And two, Steve himself said Leopard wouldn't be shipping until at least the northern Spring so there shouldn't be any speculation about a January release.

We'll get an all-singing, all-dancing preview of Leopard at MWSF combined with (I think) the iTV launch - or at least a bigger preview and the announcement of a shipping date and proper name - the release of iLife '07 which always takes a long time, a freshly updated iWork suite and maybe an addition to the iPod line.

Aside from the Mac Pro and the Mac mini there aren't any available upgrade paths for the Mac until April next year with the Santa Rosa chipset so I don't see any major Mac-related news for MWSF. It'll be all about the consumer electronics and Apple moving into the living room.

Why is no one bringing up the upcoming 5 year anniversary of the iPod as a release date ...

Is there some grand reason the anniversary is out of the question?
That would fit perfectly with the wonderful 30th anniversary Macintosh that Apple released...

Anybody else here old enough to remember the Titanium PowerBook? Maybe you recall that the shell was made from titanium and carbon fibre - painted carbon fibre? No new news here.

However, the USA has one gigantic advantage that other countries don't have: an unprecedented ground transportation infrastructure to move goods around on both rail and paved roads.

I guess you don't live in the USA. Every thing is failing apart and the roads are WAY OVER neglected! Don't even get me started on rail systems!

Oct 11 works with what they told me at the Apple store: "We'll have them in-store in early to mid October."

It's good for my wallet that they didn't have a rack of them in-store on Thursday...

Carbon fiber is ok, lightweight, and non signal degrading.

IMO those things make it better than okay.

It sounds like they're looking to change CF a bit from how we normally view it (either through new fab techniques or somehow changing the color of the final product.)

Costs for CF have come down substantially in the last 10 years...i don't think we're that far off from it replacing aluminum...etc

Ahh, I see what you were referring to now. You meant that the EU governs nations more than the directly elected legislatures of those individual countries, right?

WillEH took it in an entirely different direction and you didn't really bother to correct him (in fact, you agreed and gave him a winking emoticon), so I assumed you were both talking about the same thing; namely that illegal immigrants were somehow "taking" the country from itself.

Both of you focused on the immigrants rather than the policies, which smells (really wreaks) of xenophobia and racism (racism because let's be honest, it is the underlying cause of the xenophobia). If you didn't really mean to carry on the topic this way, then once again this thread is the casualty of sloppy writing.

Oh - I do have a problem with immigration policies too - and I'm not very happy about illegal immigrants either, so don't get me wrong on that, CalBoy. But that is not the immigrants' fault - legal or illegal. It's the politicians' fault, and the EU plays a major role in this (in their backroom-deals with Saudi officials, for instance).

I think I mentioned something about the politicians in an earlier post as well, where I stated that they are far worse than the illegal immigrants. I therefore can't really see why this is a "focus on the immigrants".

I'll try and make it if I can, but no promises. I think my Sister had a Doctors appointment on Wed, but I might be able to catch a ride with her bf, or just take the train over from their place in Santa Clara. I'd like to make it. If not, I know I'll be wandering around on Tuesday after the keynote. Maybe see y'all at the OWC thing.

Gonna be weird to see some of you in person. I'm used to you just being disembodied voices. :p And there goes my mystique too.
