I spend at least 98% of my time in AT&T 3G coverage areas. While Verizon's coverage map may look impressive with their sea of red, they seem to be forgetting that dirt can't use 3G.

Yeah, thanks Apple. Truth is, this "bug" would never have been "fixed" if the mainstream media didn't jump on this story. If I remember correctly, Jobs denied any problem (like he always does) just last week. Suddenly this becomes a problem when Al Franken (of all people) comes knocking on Apple's door. A) It's not the OSS community that's trying to crack Apple's DRM. Lets get that straight. These people have nothing to do with that community. These guys are just pirates using the source that is out there.
That's true. But they are the ones who are going bellyache continually about Apple not having the software available anymore. "Why can't I get the Darwin source code?" "This is unfair, they used BSD stuff and now they aren't sharing!" "Why haven't they released 10.4.9?" (when it comes out)
They aren't going to look at it from Apple's perspective. They aren't going to say. "Well, gee thanks Apple for trying to share the software with us. We're sorry you're getting screwed over by Wintel hackers who are too cheap to just buy a Mac." They're going too say. Well, we're sorry that's happening but you have to just put up with it as part of having your stuff available. They'll make Apple out to be evil when this is all a reactionary measure. Apple wants to release Darwin as open source, otherwise they could have just released the first version and then closed the source after that (they can legally do that, just because it was open source and you released it once doesn't mean you have to keep doing it). Apple would never be able to use any newer BSD components after that, they would begin maintaining their software as a fork pretty much. They only pulled it because someone keeps hacking to run it on plain beige box Wintels. And the OSS people aren't going to look at those hackers as the ones responsible for the source being pulled.
Many OSS people are the free as in speech types, but I feel most are a combination of the free as in speech and as in beer types. They wants software to be free for use and they don't think it should have a pricetag attached. These are the ones always saying Apple should have to release Aqua too just because the Darwin part of OSX is released.

I do , I have 140Gb of Photos from my DSLR (and previous digital cameras) putting this on 3 discs rather than 40 discs would be great
I also have 28Gb of music, backing up form itunes to 1 disc rather than 8 would also be useful
External drives are very easy to break beyond repair with osx (3 different NEW external drives, 3 different disc manufacturers discs, and the longest they lasted without dying so badly they needed an RMA was 72 hours) and discs take up less space, and you have the possibility of having 3-4 copies.

That would be neat, rat- if any of the examples you gave were health hazards. They aren't. Guns can be. And your health is your doctor's business. My doctor asks me about all kinds of things I do and activities I engage in to give me advice regarding them. Health is your doctor's business.

Part of the issue is what defines "adequately voting"? The voting system on the front page is entirely subjective and- in my opinion- adds nothing to the appeal or disappeal of the story. Same for individual posts.

I'm sure I'm not alone there, but then again I am sure many will take the popular vote route and just form their opinion based on that. Either way, a post that is good for you and me may not be good for others. I've had a fair share of PMs about my posts, both in support of and against. It is all subjective, as you say, and this rating system will be similar.

In case you haven't noticed, it's already easy to get DVD-quality movies and TV shows online for free. Yes, yes, I know, that's illegal, and we're all going to get sued by the MPAA and the RIAA and NCAA and AARP. Just let me know when I should actually start worrying about it.
The moment you've got a life to lose if you're sued and you have your hds full of pirated movies, music and stuff would be a good point to start being worried. About that life of yours if you're having a job and a family and things like that. Could get nasty if you're having a criminal record and things like that, you know.

Yup, i dont reckon he'd stream it live to us just to blow us a raspberry, or any other fruit for that matter.
He did it last year. The 5G event was streamed to Europe and you still can't get TV shows. Neither can we but it wasn't streamed here.

My friend, I hate to hurt your feelings, but I have been all over this planet and talked to people that would love to do nothing but kill Americans. I have no problems giving up a little (and it is little) piece of freedom to ensure the plane I board is as safe as we can get it. If that means they search a 6 year old then so be it. I'm also fairly certain that the government is not trying to take away our freedoms. We have had our heads stuck in the sand for years over terrorism thinking it would never happen here. Now, it has and at first people were blaming he government for not reacting soon enough... "How could you let this happen to us!" Then they implement some control to plug a rather large hole and the reaction is "you are taking away our freedom!"
You can't have your cake and eat it too. The TSA is not the best solution but it is the only reasonable one at this time. Like I said, quit complaining and come up with a better solution then send it to your congressman otherwise you are just making everyelses lives miserable who have to listen to you whine.

yeah i know! i don't know what's going on these days. apple is only concerned with iphone and ipad, but developers gotta have systems to build the apps with!

Blu-ray had initially gained a lot of studio support, but recently Universal Studios has decided to drop initial support for Blu-ray (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,2017527,00.asp).
This is false. Blu-Ray initially had less studio support. Universal never supported Blu-Ray (which the linked article states, despite the misleading headline), and Warner Brothers and Paramount only added support for Blu-Ray comparatively recently; they were initially HD-DVD only. Universal is now the only studio without Blu-Ray support.
On the other hand, Fox and Disney are still supporting only Blu-Ray (though there have been rumors of Disney looking at HD-DVD). So for the time being, it's Blu-Ray for Star Wars and Pixar fans -- assuming this is still the state of affairs when the studios release those titles...
Picture quality should be the deciding factor, and much like VHS vs Betamax, most people apparently can't see any real difference between BluRay and HD-DVD.
Given the same quality decoding hardware, for most movies they shouldn't see any difference at all. Both support the same codecs (MPEG-2, h.264, and VC-1). The first Blu-Ray discs were encoded using MPEG-2, which produced a lower quality image than the VC-1-encoded HD-DVD discs, but newer Blu-Ray discs are using VC-1 as well. The picture should be identical between the two.
The only case I could see where the capacity would affect it would be for longer movies like Lord of the Rings, where the encoded video plus lossless audio may reach the boundaries of HD-DVD. We could conceivably see more compression artifacts or the dropping of higher-resolution audio or commentaries on HD-DVD in these cases, whereas Blu-Ray would have more space. But this shouldn't affect most titles.

I'd take that 1 in a billion risk (especially since they have non piercing projectiles) over being heckled and manhandled by TSA any day. And that way I have at least a chance to stay alive if a hijacker makes through security, which they will eventually do even with current "security standards". International travel security was sufficient before 9/11. All they needed to do was raise US domestic security to that level and add sky marshals to ALL not just some flights. Problem solved. Again, 9/11 were domestic flights, NOT international. There was a security problem with DOMESTIC travel in the US, NOT international. Nah. Native PDF support (import and export) was supposed to be a feature of Windows Vista but was pulled at the last minute because of Adobe's lawsuit threat. Apparently, Microsoft and Adobe have worked it out.
Ahh, I didn't realize it was intended that long ago. Now that it is an open standard, though, Adobe shouldn't really have much say in it now, right?

Be careful when buying at an Apple Store that they don't pawn off on you the previous generation model. I was told by an employee that they were the same except for the price. If your not careful they may try to sell their existing stock at the reduced price. Buy online for now. I can't see a way to tell which model is current and which is prior, except for the obvious brightness.

This is exactly the kind of dream house I'd want! Quite big but not too big to loose control over it. Everything makes sense in it and there's nothing unnecessary. I wonder what it would look like on the inside, colors, tables, walls, floor, lights and all that.

I am personally hoping for a diesel Volt one day as well. Diesel engines are far better suited then gas engines when it comes to a series hybrid like the Volt.
