You New York is New York, part of the USA.That's why I said local government... you have that in the US, too, you know...

Saying that you are small, rich and well educated... And then you even say, you are technologically advanced?

Have you been to Singapore, Kuwait, Japan? I can name a few more places, but let's keep the list short. No I haven't been to any of those places. But what has that to do with anything...?

Again, this is not a contest, and I didn't even say we were the most technological advanced population in the world, nor the richest.

Just that we as population in general are rich and technologically advanced. Or don't you agree with that?

Well I went to the Mall of America Apple Store (Bloomington Minnesota) that opened at 6am CST, bought a Macbook, and have since returned home.

I was the first person in the store at the register, and the 1st to buy a computer today at that store :)

    I got the C2D 1.83 GHZ (Base model ;) ) for $1062.87 out the door :) .

Shocking that carriers would take steps to stop people from stealing service from them.

You did not pay for tethering data. That is a separate charge. By circumventing the system you are stealing. There are no ifs, ands or buts about it.

It is not a gray area.. it is black and white. The contracts specifically say the data you pay for does not include tethering. Tethering costs extra.

Contract terms require "consideration" from both parties to be legally binding. Consideration is something you provide to the other party (i.e., money from you, data services from your carrier).

What consideration are the carriers offering you for tethering? You're already paying $X for Y GB of data used on your phone. It doesn't matter to the carrier if your Netflix app is using it, or your tethering app is sending the data to your laptop. Nothing changes on their end, they just send the data that you've already paid for to your phone, and your phone handles the rest.

You're right, it is black and white. It's a scam aimed at exploiting consumers like yourself who don't know any better, with an illegal contract term. I hope this goes to court soon, before the carriers in Canada (where I am) try to pull the same BS.

You do realize that Mord is transgendered, right? Why not listen to someone who's actually been there for as change?

Because it is not material to my point.... In the slightest....

Another analogy: "I am a basketball player. A regulation basketball weighs 96 pounds. I am right, because I am a basketball player and you are not."

    Silly? Yes.

Because sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting "La… La…*la…" is so much easier.

Really? I provided a source backing my point. How, exactly, is that going "la la la la"?

Not sure about the AP Express (it's not on Apple's printed "Joy to the Wallet" sale list) ... Here it is again:

"Joy to the Wallet" sale only on black friday '06:

    iMac: $898-$1958
    MacBook: $998-$1398
    .Mac: $68
    iPod Nano (except Reds): $138-$228
    iPod: $228-$318
    Wireless Mighty Mouse: $58
    Shure earphones: $78-$238
    Contour iPod Cases: $14-$24
    Belkin TuneBase FM: $58
    JBL On Stage Micro: $78
    JBL Spot Speakers: $108
    LaCie Hard Drives: $148-$888
    Incase Sling Pack: $48
Xtreme Mac Micro Memo Voice Recorder: $48
    Sonic Impact Video-55 Display: $238
    Nike+iPod Sport Kit: $24

The "red" iPod nanos and the new ipod shuffle remain at the same prices...

Well, then you add tax and you would be better of buying online at free-shipping, no-tax options. Applestores are nice, to look at stuff, but no good for anything else (especially lousy are the 'so-called' genius bars).
    Just my 2c, t.

Some of it is copying, but it's good for consumers. The program packaging is because Microsoft is planning to release an App Store for Windows.

I'm just glad Microsoft is focusing on consumer features in their operating system instead of just enterprise features. I hope they revamp Media Center with the Windows Phone UI and ditch Windows Media Player all together in favor of the Zune software (or turn WMP into a QuickLook-like application).

As for Lion, I expect Apple is holding back some major features for WWDC. While Versions, AirDrop, Mission Control and Launchpad are all "tentpole" user features, there has to be more coming. I want desperately for Apple to create some type of iTunes sharing process so that iTunes doesn't have to run constantly to stream to home sharing devices. And why isn't AirPlay built into QuickTime X in Lion?

NSA does not have a security expert at Apple. Apple has a security expert who used to be with the NSA. Big difference.

    To your knowledge, they dont.

Not going to happen. You realise that Apple doesn't give a crap about the 100 nerds out there that want to be able to upgrade their graphics cards? [...]

Your arguments contradict each other, specifically this sentence:

Its a small market segment that will cannibalise both iMac and Mac Pro sales if introduced.

If it's a small market segment then "cannibalize" is completely the wrong term to use. More like "nibble into." That's besides the point, because I completely diasgree with your first premise (that it's a small market segment). I think it's a HUGE market segment. I agree with you that it won't happen, though. Why, you might ask?

    Read on...

The people I have spoken to who use PC's are not nerds or power users, however, they do have monitors that work perfectly fine and want to use them.

Unfortunately this is EXACTLY why Apple ISN'T producing a headless mid-range Mac. They will lose out tremendously on display sales. They either want to sell you a display within the unit (iMac, MacBooks) or sell you a display with the unit (Mini, Pro). Mini users will buy one because A. they're in the store and B. don't know any better. Pro users will buy one because they are top-of-the line, beautiful screens and they, generally, have money to burn. Mid-range users (and prosumers) know well enough that they can get a cheap, good-enough monitor for $200 from NewEgg or eBay (for the daring). Instead, we prosumers either have to settle for the iMac or splurge on the Mac Pro.

Apple is losing sales because of it.

Just the opposite, my friend, just the opposite. Sometimes by blocking out a certain range of products, a company can make more money.

    -Clive

On a more serious note, I wonder how all this drama surrounding Apples DRM will impact the ODF argument? I mean, if you have the right to open a recording you PURCHASED on whatever type of player you wish, shouldn't you also have the right to open a document YOU CREATE, on any type of app that handles that type of data, without losing any functionality? I mean, shouldn't a Pages doc open on word without losing the formatting? Shouldn't an excel file open on Lotus? Did Steve Jobs forsee this? Is it all part of some masterplot???:eek:dsnort, meet OpenDocument (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opendocument)... ;)

    Good.

How is the new office Eric? What goes around comes around. The walls are starting to lean.

The future is WIN7, iOS, and RIMM. :apple:

I am more curious how the labels are going to try to renegotiate contracts with Apple once Steve moves on.

I am not too sure Tim Cook or anyone of his pay grade is as tough as Steve is when it comes to these label execs.

Do more research on Tim. Steve picks the target. Tim delivers the system.:apple:

Even if Rim, Palm, etc. exhibit the same antenna problems as the iPhone 4, Apple is acting like a cry baby by trying to shift the discussion to include their competitors. Teacher, the other kids are being bad too, dont punish me alone.

Actually it was the competitors that tried to use the antenna problems as a selling point and as propaganda.

    http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/06/28/how-do-you-hold-your-nokia/
So the lot of them are fair game...

As for bloggers that just wanted to troll the issue to drive their numbers up the presentation (and answers that followed) were pretty much Jobs telling them to try and get a journalist degree and get their facts straight, and who could blame him?

Since the iPhone 4 as started shipping we've had the antenna problem that has being described as if the phone could simply not be used (numbers debunked that) without real investigation, fake Jobs e-mail, fake reports of an engineer warnings etc.

If it wasn't for anandtech this all would be a complete disaster. The way different technology sites reported the story is just pathetic.

Why does everyone REFUSE to Blame this ignorant Mayor? This mayor they have is a total idiot.

Everyone REFUSES to even hold him partially responsible, instead its easier to blame Bush.

We all no why though, the mayor is black so no one wants to say anything bad.

I'm not refusing to blame the mayor. Him and the governor of Louisiana are complete morons. They're partially to blame for the amount of people who couldn't evacuate before the storm (they made no attempt to help.)

HOWEVER Bush IS partially to blame for the slow federal response. #1 he elected the FEMA heads, neither of which had any clue how to do their job. #2 all of the needed equipment was in Iraq.

Unfortunately the real people to blame were the ones who decided to build a city in a bowl next to the ocean. But they're long dead, so thats no fun.

I've said this many times, EVERYONE ********* up a little (or a lot) during this tragedy.

    (1) Update to iTunes to allow rentals and the new model Fox apparently has on their new DVD's...I am not expecting HD...I want it, but there have been no rumors at all about it...

    (2) Apple TV Update - Minor Stuff - Mobile iTunes Store, maybe a hard drive bump and possibly a DVD drive, no Blu-Ray.

    (3) iPhone Software Update - Possibly will show off the SDK that is getting launched in February. The 1.1.3 update will happen, but hopefully there will be a few more features like iChat, Games, and Video Recording. No change to hardware.

    (4) Macbook Air - 32gig SSD, No Optical Bay, Very thin, Very light, driven to be a companion notebook for a Consumer, not a replacement for the Powerbook 12" which was aimed at Pro's...Touchpad will be new and innovative.
Chance that it may work as a Sync device through iTunes like an iPod with a Homescreen interface rather than a full blown version of Leopard...ie. you sync all files, programs, and content from your "main" computer.

    (5) "One More Thing" - The Macbook and Macbook Pro's will get the new Touchpad that is in the Macbook Air...

That's about what I think the Keynote will progress through.

iPhone 3g will not be ready until the Christmas Season. Same for iPods, no hardware updates at all to them. The SDK however should be out for the iPod Touch as well.

Cinema Displays, Blu-Ray, and DVD Studio Pro 5 will be launched at NAB in April.

iMac's will not see an update until Spring at the earliest, and again when the mobile quad-core's finally get released which should be late in the year.

The issue here is that bloggers and online journalists are still a fairly new medium and haven't been fully accepted yet. This would happen with any sort of group that didn't have a history.

I would bet that no print media journalist would ever pull crap like this, either. He/she would have been fired on the spot and the publication itself would have issued a real apology, not post a video online and issue a half-hearted apology to one group.

Whoa. You honestly think that there isn't anyone in the print media that pulled stuff like that? You haven't read a lot of the more satirical magazines.

And by saying "haven't been fully accepted yet" you really mean "the big print media guys are still in their transition." They all know print is basically dead, they've been trying to transition for years. Some morons with a blog turning off tvs at a tech conference are not going to stop this transition. If anything it will lead to conferences learning how to properly vet online media like they do with print media.
